Lessons Learned · Spiritual Truths

Living in the Past.

Things from our past just seem to linger, don’t they? Mistakes we’ve made, friends we’ve lost, things we’ve done and have struggled to “move on” from. It’s hard not to come back to them even after we’ve allegedly left them behind.

Living in the Past

We see reminders everywhere. And for some of us, our guilty conscience weighs on us until the issue is rectified.

Thanks to Timehop, I’m reminded of poor decisions I made five and six years ago. No, little dinosaur, I do not want to be reminded of the boyfriend that controlled and manipulated me into almost missing out on an incredible future. Thanks anyway.

let us look together at what the bible has to say about leaving our past behind. Reflect on this:

  • “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”  {II Corinthians 5:17}
  • “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead…” {Philippians 3:13}
  • “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” {I John 1:9}

We are a new creation in Christ! We don’t have to live in our past anymore! The mistakes that were made are over, the poor decisions are done.

Today is a brand new day to live and we have a bright future ahead of us!

Living in the present is important. Why should we spend this valuable time dwelling on things of the past?

Maybe today is the day you take the step to stop living in the past. Make the decision to stop dwelling on that one thing that has been holding you back or making you feel horrible about yourself.

The Lord forgives sins bigger than the one you’re struggling with, I promise. Live in that hope today!

xoxo
